About Me.

I’m Alyssa, the designer behind Posie & Plume. I started my career in floral design completely on a whim after starting a PhD program in Sociology—quickly realizing it was not the place for me. So, I packed up and moved back to the upstate New York not quite knowing where life would take me next. After leaving academia, I was desperate to “take a break” by focusing on my creative interests. I applied for a floral design assistant position at a studio specializing in weddings and events, expecting it to be a low-key job that I could do while figuring out my next move. It was certainly not “low-key,” but I quickly fell in love with the beauty and excitement of all things floral! I soon realized that nothing had ever made me feel as fulfilled as creating beautiful things and making people happy through flowers. I started Posie and Plume in March of 2020—as you can imagine, we were off to a rough start. Since then, I’ve worked on countless beautiful events, collaborated with amazing vendors, and grown beyond what I could have dreamed.

My Approach.

My approach to floral design is inspired by fine art, lush gardens, the form and movement of flowers themselves, and other natural elements. I love color, organically shaped bouquets, and whimsical garden arrangements—with some moody elements and a little bit of drama thrown in for good measure! When possible I use local, seasonal blooms but work with vendors near and far to find the perfect flowers for each event. I strive to use the highest quality products in all of my designs. Each design is unique and customized specifically for every client.
